STATIC ELECTRICITY MAKES DRY hair stand on end. "The key to preventing static is to keep your hair in super condition, especially in the throes of winter," says Stephanie Tourles, an aesthetician and aromatherapist in Hyannis, Mass.
She suggests deep-conditioning your hair weekly: Massage 1/4 to 1/2 cup olive oil into your hair, concentrating on the ends, and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes. The cap will capture heat from your head, helping the moisture to penetrate deep into the hair shaft. Afterward, shampoo your hair as usual.
For a quick static fix, try Giovanni Frizz Be Gone ($7.95; 800-563-5468; www.giovannicosmetics.com)
or Jason Frizz Control ($7.50; 800-527-6605; www.jason-natural.com); both are
sold in natural food stores. A few drops of either product, worked through your
hair, tames unruly strands and adds significant shine.
