Mens Hair Products
As men spend more time and money on grooming products, manufactures can cater to their hair care needs.

MiN caters to men who want a natural look. Its Men's Color Match product line
allows professional stylists to match a man's original hair color while covering
gray. It features a palette of cool tones in a range of colors, keeping away
from red or orange, which are usually found in female tones.
Even highlights should be natural-looking. "Color is painted on as a natural
accent to the hair design," advised Leonardo Gugliotti, MCA men's hair
designer, when forecasting this fall's trends. Karin Eldor, fashion correspondent
for AskMen.com agreed, recommending men lighten their hair subtly. "Avoid
bleaching your hair and falling victim to what is often referred to as the skater
look," she explained.
It is also important that products are formulated exclusively for men--not as
an afterthought to a women's product. Both Maxim Magazine Hair Color and MiN
were formulated without ammonia, which men object to in traditional color lines,
so that the process isn't offensive to their senses. MiN also boasts a processing
time of three to five minutes to accommodate any impatience, allowing products
to deliver results men want in a short amount of time, whereas Maxim's natural
formulation is fortified with vitamin-enriched conditioners to protect the hair.
It contains a unique complex of vitamin E, protein, chamomile and aloe for thicker,
healthier-looking hair that's easier to control. Because men may not be aware
of the effects of hair color or don't take preventative measures to protect
the hair, products with multi-functionality will appeal to them most, especially
if it does all this in one easy step.
Styling products
From men's classic cuts to midway lengths and longer styles, any cut can be
complemented with color and product. According to National Cosmetology Association's
fall/winter trends report, urban and elegant lines will complement golden brown,
chestnut and honey tones this season for a relaxed and modern look. Handsome,
short 'dos can transform easily from spiky to smooth, while mid-length looks
are created with a razor to cut external and internal perimeters for a soft
edge. Styling products go a long way to achieving the looks men desire as well.
Gel, paste and wax help men achieve spiky short 'dos, as well as the purposely
messy look. "The messy, natural look isn't natural by nature," explained
Eldor. "It requires a procedure in order to be achieved."
The Maxim Magazine Hair Color line includes a strong-hold gel and 2-in-1 shampoo
and conditioner, which work to hold style and protect colored hair with fade-resistant
UV filters to help keep colored hair vibrant. Other developments include Clear
Molding Pomade from Clubman Pinaud, a manufacturer of men's toiletries. Developed
to meet the needs of men seeking a product that makes styling easier, the product
offers control and flexibility without the greasiness and rigidity common among
pomades. The pomade washes out completely with one wash because no waxes or
heavy ingredients have been added to weigh down hair.
